Temptation is everywhere.
It's July, 1923. By day twenty-year-old Tiny O’Mara works for her father’s smalltime bootlegging operation. By night she craves the roll-your-stockings-down lifestyle of a flapper, but with her mother gone, she’s usually stuck at home with two younger sisters—until her father is kidnapped by a mobster in Detroit's exploding organized crime scene, and it’s Tiny who has to come up with the ten-thousand-dollar ransom.
In one week.
Enzo DiFiore’s screen-idol looks and dangerous charm leave her breathless, even though he’s the son of the mobster holding her father hostage. But when the forbidden spark between them refuses to burn out, she tries to use their powerful attraction to buy more time.
And then there’s Joey Lupo, the irritatingly handsome pest from her childhood who’s got the street smarts Tiny needs to smuggle enough booze to make a quick ten grand. But he’s got his own agenda where gang rivalries are concerned, and despite his promise to protect her, Tiny isn’t sure she can trust Joey—or stop her growing feelings for him.
To save her father’s life, she’ll have to choose between them. But deciding whom to trust isn’t easy in a world where everyone wants something—be it booze, money, power, or sex—and no one cares what it takes to get it.

Bootlegging. Extortion. Gangs. Lies. Betrayal. Hot love interest with some steamy scenes. Yep. What’s not to love?
“Tiny”, or Frances rather, is a still at home, taking care of her sisters and home by day. Runs her fathers bootlegging business by night. After ignoring the “larger fish’s” request to pay for protection, her father is kidnapped and the responsibly falls to Tiny to come up with the ransom money to release him. With the help of a few friends, Tiny battles deception, lust, threats on her family and must make some tough decisions to save her father. And herself.
Historical anything is always a hit or miss for me. Speak Easy was by far, one of the better historical books I have read. I love Melanie’s writing. She was spot on at drawing me in to the 20’s atmosphere and she even hit the small details. And she can write some hot and steamy scenes. *fans self*
Tiny was a little spit fire! She’s strong, brave and so dedicated to saving her father. She had to stoop down to some lows for information and is pretty quick to learn the ways of the game. She’s pretty damn smart.. Knowing when to fight back and when not to. I wasn’t a fan of ALL her choices though; one incident in particular was rather disappointing. BUT. In the same token, I get it. Sometimes, you have to make some hard decisions to protect the ones you love and she had many to make.
The isn’t a love triangle, per se, but there are two hot, swoon worthy males vying for her attention. Enzo- the son of the mobster that kidnapped her father. And Joey. Childhood friend who helps Tiny out in the best of ways. Of course, they have their own motives too. BUT. Enzo. Whew. They’re chemistry was off the charts! While he does play with Tiny a little, he’s pretty upfront with what he wants. I love how realistic their relationship is. Especially in the Prohibition Era. (You must read it to understand what I mean! 😉 )
There was a tiny (HA, see what I did there?!) cliff hanger. Or rather, a perfect set up for the next book. Which I am anxiously awaiting!
Overall- Loved this! Flawless writing, thrilling-action packed with some hot and steamy scenes. A must read for lovers on NA or historical fiction. Highly recommend.
