Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.
What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

It’s been awhile since I have a really good, solid book of Faery lore. I love being swept away into a vivid, imaginary world full of cunning, terrifying yet beautiful creatures. The Forgotten Ones easily hits the mark and earned itself a spot on my favorites shelf.
21-year-old Allison lives a simple life with her grandparents and mentally ill mother. She’s quite reserved and her sole focus in life is to take the burden off her grandparents and care for her Mother. Even pushing away the hansom and charming Ethan; whom she has harbored feeling for years. When her Father shows up unannounced, with a promise to help her Mother, Allison is swept off into a world of Faery’s and must go to great lengths to save herself, her Mother and Ethan.
The book is short, to my standards, but it was so well written. Everything flowed together smoothly and the pacing was perfect.. I liked how Laura handled her dreams and the execution of explaining the lore was fantastic. I was a little thrown off by all the characters and their names though. There were so many introduced in a short time that I was confusing who was who. I was happy to see the pronunciation “guide” because that REALLY helped. There was also a small mystery thrown in there that I am eager to learn more about. Who is Samantha!?
My heart broke for Allison. Over the course of her life, she has watched first hand as her mother succumbed to schizophrenia. She’s strong, brave and proves more than once that she would do anything to save and protect the ones she loves. She is smart too, not really buying into Liam’s “story” right away. She also has reservations when it comes to Ethan. Sure, she has had feelings for him for quite some time, but she is smart emotion to see what kind of man he portrays himself to be. Although we don’t really see too much development in their “relationship” that small bit at the end crushed me. Seeing him with someone else after all she did for him was hard to watch.
The story left us on a small cliffhanger. Not the type to make you scream and throw the kindle, but enough to make your anticipation soar for the next book. And I can’t wait!
Overall- I loved it! Well written, fun and enchanting; I highly recommend The Forgotten Ones.
