Hello! I am so excited for this guest post on Lilybloombooks and so thankful to Tonyalee for this opportunity. When I put myself forward to do this post I thought that as on my own blog I am moving into being a book blogger and Tonyalee’s blog is a book blog it would only be fair to the both of us if I wrote a book specific post. I like writing about books because I love to share my feelings about books and if I have a book I love I want to shout about it. I decided on the topic of most surprising books as in particular because it’s something I haven’t written about on my own blog so its original for me and I also wouldn’t have thought of doing this post if it wasn’t for this opportunity so I felt it would be only fair to write this post for Lilybloombooks. So without further ado here are my top most surprising books.
1. I’ll Give You the Sun – This book is about twins Noah and Jude who at 13 years old are incredibly close. Three years later, however, they are not speaking as a dramatic event has driven them apart and changed them both. They are also both in love with people they feel they can’t have. Noah tells his side of the story at 13 and Jude tells hers at 16. This book surprised me because when I first read the synopsis for this book I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it and I thought it could be a bit cheesy as it’s a bit of a love story. However, it was the complete opposite. I actually loved it from beginning to end and didn’t want to put it down. There were a couple of predictable things but I was surprised by how much I actually loved it and even though some things were predictable the events were still surprising and the way they play out is unpredictable. The ending is also not what you expect, it is a happy ending but not in the way you want it’s kind of subtle happy ending. The whole book was heartwarming and made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
2.We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves – This book is about a girl whose sister was taken away when she was five and hasn’t seen her older brother in ten years and the journey she is on to figure out why. This book surprised me because the plot is just something I didn’t expect at all. It’s too good to spoil especially because I didn’t feel it gave it away till the author actually tells you but everything you have read before then makes sense. I also think it’s surprising because the way it ends isn’t so much the happy ending you are expecting but it’s still a happy ending just not in the way you think. I also just love this book because of the way it’s told.
3.The Silver Linings Playbook – This book is about a guy called Pat who has a theory that his life is a movie made by God but now he’s home from being in a mental health facility his life feels off as nobody is talking about his ex wife, his beloved sports team keeps losing and he is being stalked by Tiffany as well as being haunted by Kenny G! What surprised me the most about this book was how funny it was! It is about mental health but at the same time it’s made to be humorous but in a way that makes it light-hearted. I also rooted for Pat the whole way through the book and was hoping he would get his happy ending. It’s also surprising the way some of the events played out, you expect Pat to get his happy ending at one point but then it takes a complete U turn and makes the situation worse than better.
4. Will Grayson, Will Grayson– This book is about two guys called Will Grayson who’s lives intertwine even though they live in different states. I love this book because it is written by John Green and David Levithan so one tells chapters by one will and the other tells the other chapters as the other will. What is surprising about this book is how good it actually is. I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea as I lent it to a friend and she didn’t find it as good as I did but I loved it. It also works so well when two authors are telling the same story from two people’s point of view. I also loved that the character who was more of a secondary character actually became more of the main character towards the end.
5. The Manifesto on How to be Interesting– This book is about a girl who is quite unpopular at school l so has decided to create a project and set up a blog called the manifesto on how to be interesting. I haven’t finished reading this book yet but I have found it quite surprising so far. I originally thought it could be quite cliché because of the fact it is about an unpopular girl trying to become popular but it is actually a lot better than I thought. I also thought it wouldn’t be as good because it is told in third person but again it is so much better than I first thought.
So those are my top most surprising books. I love all of these books and would want the whole world to read them especially because they are so much better than I first imagined. If you have any books that have surprised you feel free to share them in the comments.
Thanks for reading!
