Moving to self-hosted WordPress was probably one of THE most scariest yet best moves I have made while blogging. I have always used WordPress as my platform, so there wasn’t that much that changed when taking the plunge. It was more of a… YOU ARE OFFICIAL feeling that was scary.

Since moving, I have changed A LOT of things (as most of you know) but there are TWO things I will remain consistent with. The Themes I use (and who they are by) and the plugins.

I have roughly…. 35 plugins installed. I don’t USE them all – but I have this weird habit of NOT removing things I don’t use. But I digress. Here is my list of the top 5 that are my FAVORITE plugins that make my life SO MUCH EASIER!

Ultimate Book Blogger (UBB) – plus add-ons

Purchase (Affiliate link)

Ashley (Nosegraze) is my GO TO for all things WordPress. The UBB is THE BEST thing to happen and if you aren’t using it, you are missing out! It’s so easy to customize, plus with ALL the add-ons? AMAZING. Formatting takes me 5 minutes per post; which gives me more time to write awesome content. Not only that, she has great customer service and is SO helpful!

Plus, the plugin comes with MANY widgets that you are able to put on your side bar. Social Media icons, display books from your Goodreads shelf. Automatically link your giveaways and display the book cover (or links) for recently reviewed. There is the option for reviews from THIS month or LAST month as well. It’s so nice for all of this to automatically display! Makes my life easier!

Of all the add-ons, these are the ones that I use*;

  1. Reading Challenge
  2. Rating-Report (which is FREE) and you can change what you rate. Plot, characters, writing etc.
  3. Icon Tags – Not on this blog, but at After Hours at Lilybloombooks

Click to Tweet

(Plug-in) By Ben Meredith

This is one of my newest installments, and I am IN LOVE WITH IT. This plugin creates a “click to tweet” within the post. You can place them anywhere and have them SAY anything. See for yourself!

What 5 plugins make my life easier? Check them out! Click To Tweet

Personally, when I see these within a post, I click them! It’s an easy way for readers to share your content and instead of sharing the title post, YOU create the message.

Easy-Peasy.

(Subscribe) Reply to Comments

Subscribe to comments reloaded (more information)

Not sure if people are seeing your replies? Or, want to know when someone replies to YOUR comment?

This plug-in is similar to most Reply to Comment plug-ins, and more tech savvy individuals would see the difference. This plug-in subscribes users to REPLIES, so they receive an email when you reply to their original comment. I have tested it and asked around, and it does NOT subscribe to ALL comments, unless you select it while commenting, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

There are a lot of blogs I visit that use it and I love it.

Revive Old Post (Former Tweet Old Post)

(Plug-in by ThemeIsle)

This plug-in automatically tweets old posts from your blog. You can customize it for whatever categories you want or DON’T want it to tweet, how old the post should be to tweet and a time frame between each post. You can also add a Hashtag and additional text in the beginning OR end of post title. It’s nice because instead of manually promoting, or scheduling on Hootsuite or Tweetdesk, it’s done automatically! (also, just looking again and since the last update, you can add Facebook too!)

SumoMe

(SumoMe.com)

This plug-in has SO many features! You know that pop-up to subscribe? That is because of SumoMe. (yes, I heard they can be annoying. But they work.) Also, up top? The smart bar linked to my Twitter? SumoMe. There are other features like, Share Icons, Share Images and there is one called a highlighter; which enables readers to highlight a section of the post to share on social media.

UBB is like, some kind of godsend, I swear. Ashley was sent from the heavens to help book bloggers, I am convinced! WHAT did I do before this!? Seriously! I LOVE the Subscribe to Comment one, it is also a lifesaver. I wasn’t sure what people thought about the Click to Tweet (even though I have used it myself!) but knowing that people are fans… well, I may have to look into it!

And thanks for sharing the link to the icon tag- I was SO confused about what it was supposed to do! But then I read one of your reviews, and I kind of love the idea. I may have to do this now too 🙂 Fabulous post, thanks for all the great info!

Yes she was! I honestly can’t remember how I did ANYTHING before UBB!

The icon tag plugin is what makes sorting them and adding them to the post easier. The images I use @ After Hours are from Parajunkie! But hopefully soon, I am able to create my own! If you want screen shots of what the plug in looks like, let me know. 🙂

  2. Sheri @ Tangled Up In Books

You know how badly i wish I would’ve started out on WP? I am forever tempted with making the switch but I just don’t want to deal with it yanno? So instead I sit here and stew in my jealousy of you lovely people with all these cool little plugins.

*goes off to pout in the corner* haha 😛

Anytime you want to post on my blog and play around, let me know!! It’s so easy to use. If you find someone to do the migration for you, it’s no big thang!

  3. Jen @ YA Romantics

Believe it or not, I started out on WordPress (the free version) and switched to Blogger because I couldn’t deal with the limitations of the free platform. I have no issues with Blogger except that it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of hosted WP. *cries* I just feel like if I had to pay for hosting, I’d have to cut way back on my giveaway budget and I hate to do that..
