Fans of Jennifer E. Smith and Jenny Han will fall in love with this heartfelt and humor-laced debut following one girl’s race to find the guy of her cosmic dreams.

When zodiac-obsessed teen Wilamena Carlisle discovers a planetary alignment that won’t repeat for a decade, she’s forced to tackle her greatest astrological fear: The Fifth House—relationships and love.

But when Wil falls for a sensitive guitar player hailing from the wrong side of the astrology chart, she must decide whether a cosmically doomed love is worth rejecting her dead mother’s legacy and the very system she’s faithfully followed through a lifetime of unfailing belief.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

My Thoughts:

Right from the start, I knew I would LOVE Summer of Supernovas, even though it has that FLUFF feel to it, which isn’t something I usually read. I devoured this book within hours and I couldn’t get enough!

First, I have to mention how hilarious Summer of Supernovas is! The first chapter had me doubled over laughing because of Wil and her hilariously witty monologue and situations she got herself into. She is such an awesome character. She is quirky and fun and her loyalty to a promise she made her mom when she was younger is what drove her actions in most of the story, and while I was frustrated at times with her decisions and failure to OPEN HER EYES, I got it. It really drove home how sometimes the things we cling to can be suffocating and can be reason(s) we miss out on life.

Both boys involved are super sweet, caring, hilarious and yes, swoony! I adored Grant more; I felt like he was more flushed out character over Seth. It’s obvious to me Wil has more chemistry with one brother in particular and wouldn’t have even given the other the time of day had the situation been different. (And no, that’s not a spoiler because you figure that out pretty quick.) But, that is basically the whole point of the book, so you gotta go with it.

Along with the brothers, we have some awesome secondary characters. I adored Irena and Manny, as well as her grandmother. I did feel like the backstory with her gran and father was slightly underdeveloped, and I would have loved to explore that more. Yet at the same time, we don’t need more information. It’s a weird situation. Another thing, I thought there was some underlining issue between the brothers already, actions by one felt extreme in a sense and I wish he wasn’t portrayed that way. Just a feeling though.

All in all – I loved it! Summer of Supernovas is such a fun, quirky and sweet YA romance. I highly recommend it, especially if you are in the mood for laughs and swoons!

Well, there’s a reason why she does the things she does. Some would say it was all for the drama, but I saw it otherwise. But yes, the love triangle was a pretty big deal IMO, but there are other things happening. If you don’t want the drama or anything like that, I say skip it.
