Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.
In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.
Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.
For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .
Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.
And some ranting
I feel like we are stuck in a pattern with this series. MEH BOOK, GOOD BOOK, MEH BOOK, GOOD BOOK.. and Silver Shadows is bordering on MEH to WHAT IS THIS!?
After the heart stop ending to Fiery Heart I went into Silver Shadows excited, hopeful, yet with a side of trepidation. After a vague conversation with a blogger friend of mine, I knew that something happened in this book that would both be a turning point in the series, and possibly make me want to throw things.
I was throwing things.
There were several things that really bugged me about this book. The almost non-existent plot. The characters. The THINGS that happened at the end. And the convenience of it ALL. *fumes*
The Plot –
Yeah, nothing happens in the book for at least 60% and what does happen, fueled my rage. View Spoiler »Sydney is locked away for over half the book. The escape/break out happened in like, 5 pages and it was SO EASY. SOOOO EASY. And no one was seriously hurt?? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE. « Hide Spoiler
Adrian. Oh, how you disappoint. I pretty much fell in love with you in Fiery Heart. But now I can’t stand the sight of you, you selfish A hole. View Spoiler » Woe is me all the way. He drank, partied and lead another female on because, He JUST DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. EFF THAT. How about, not drink? How about, work with the people with ENDLESS resources – HELLO ABE – to get her back? Sydney was literally tortured while he sat back and got wasted endlessly. « Hide Spoiler
Sydney was still Sydney. She is such a strong female character and I still love her to pieces. However, I feel like we didn’t really get to see the after math of what she suffered at the hands of the Alchemist. It was all very vague View Spoiler »Her after, not the torture « Hide Spoiler and I am just waiting for shit to hit the fan.
And let’s not even get into the BIG EVENT. Now, there is a part of me that see the logic… But c’mon. ARE YOU EVEN KIDDING ME.
All in all, this book was major disappointment for me. The few good things that I enjoyed are masked by the things that bothered me. Petty? Maybe. Majority of the events could have been added to the last book; only adding 100 pages to the page count. Or even a novella. But whatever. Yes, I will read the last book because I HAVE to know how it all ends. With the pattern I mentioned above, changes are it’ll be good.
Have you read this installment in the Bloodlines series? If so, what did you think?
