Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

Review

This is one of those times where, it doesn’t matter what you say, how many edits or how much time you spend on the review, nothing you say will really justify just how GOOD the book really is. I’m trying really hard not to fan girl and flail. I’m trying write something a least slightly coherent.

This by far, is the best book in the Lux series. I could even go as far as to say this is the best book she has written. (I haven’t read all her books so, that’s not fair) It seems to me that Jennifer wanted to shock us with IT ALL in one book. She brought out the big guns, all her tricks and BOOM BABY! This book has the most action. A heartbreaking betrayal and twist. DEATH. Some gruesome scenes involving torture. Of course, some sweet and sexy Daemon and Katy scenes. More development into the Lux and Daedalus as a whole. EVEN THE FREAKIN TITLE IS IMPORTANT. I can’t even.. *deep breath* I just.. I can’t even..

Moving on.

After that EVIL cliffhanger in Opal, we find Katy in the hands of Daedalus. There wasn’t much time to question their intentions because they were clearly stated right off. Whatever you thought you knew about Daedalus. No. Just.. No. The horrible things that these people do.. and WHY..  These things aren’t pretty. At all. We catch up with the secondary characters we all love and hate. Not to mention, there are quite a few new faces too. We also get to see a completely different side to Daemon. He’s one seriously scary Luxen when he’s pissed. And lemme tell you, he’s pissed.

As the series has progressed, we see Katy grow tremendously. In Origin, when her future looks bleak and she suffers the most– day in and day out- she is at her strongest. She is defiant. Brave. Smart. Her determination to live is at its highest and admirable. Although I felt some of the things she did were justifiable (and she did A LOT of… things) It was hard for her to accept and get over. To be honest, I admire that. She never made excuses but at the same time, would do them over again. Her love for Daemon and need to protect him is stronger. Regardless what SHE was going through she was more worried about how Daemon would react and handle these situations vs being afraid for herself.

I was thrilled when I found out when we getting some Daemon POV. I usually don’t care for the switch, especially mid series, but it was crucial to the story development in Origin. Of course, add in that Jennifer was spot on with his POV and c’mon, it’s Daemon Freakin Black people. Anyway. I felt like not only did we see a different side of Daemon, we see more of his softer/sweet side. There was never any doubt about his feelings for Katy but actually being in his head, witnessing his turmoil and protective thoughts just adds to the effect. I was melting. Seriously. He would stop at nothing and I mean, NOTHING to protect Katy. AND!!! Their little sneak out adventure?! *feels*

So to avoid spoilers, the rest of my review will be vague. Like I said before, we learned a lot the Luxen, Arum and Daedalus. It was seriously horrifying what these people were doing and nauseating most of the time. I love the added.. twist? (for lack of a better word) Of some of the characters.. origins. (bahha if you read the book, you KNOW what I am talking about) I think beyond what happened to Katy, this freaked me out the most.

The FAQ-Was there a cliffhanger? Yeah, I think so. It isn’t as… ERMAHGERD as Opal but I was pretty much freaking out when I finished the book. The build up was perfect for the final installment.

Overall~ Loooooved it. Best installment in the Lux series. Origin has it all. Heart pounding action. Twists that will have you reeling. devastating betrayals. Death. AND DAEMON. Seriously. Read.This.Now. Hold on tight guy, this one will take you for a wild ride.
