Hello Hello!

Today, I am excited to have Morgan on the blog today! Morgan is a blogger over @ Gone With the Words and fellow football lover AND friend! When I saw that she too, adores middle grade, I asked her is she was willing to come on the blog and share her love!

In 140 characters or less, tell me what it is you LOVE about Middle Grade.

I love the focus on adventure, family, and friendship, with hints of romances for upper MG! And I love when magic is mixed in too.

What is your ALL TIME favorite MG read? Why?

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. It’s such a wonderful Cinderella retelling with original world building, a heroine you love to root for, lots of food for thought about the choices we make, and amazingly realized characters considering how short the book is.  I loved Ella’s bravery, the fairy tale twist, the made up languages, CHAR! It holds up really well on rereads too, I’ve read it 4 times (most recently last year!). Gail Carson Levine’s writing is wonderful and whimsical and never feels too young.

Are there any upcoming 2016 releases you are excited for?

Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella by Megan Morrison, Behind the Canvas by Alexander Vance, The Skeleth by Matthew Jobin, The Secrets of Dreadwillow Carseby Brian Farrey, The Voyage to Magical North by Claire Fayers, and If the Magic Fits by Susan Maupin Schmid.

What back-list MG is a MUST READ for readers?

The Redwall series by Brian Jacques! I devoured the first 13 books in this series the summer after 7th grade. It’s a medieval fantasy set in Redwall Abbey, but with mice and a host of other creatures. The animal groups, from mice to hares to moles, all have their own cultures and ways of speaking, and the books are filled with action and mystery, as well as friendship and family; they are very epic. They go on quests and adventures, and fight evil hordes. They also have some amazing feasts! The books are long but not difficult to read.

Is there a MG book that you would love to see adapted into a movie or show? Why?

Let’s redo the Ella Enchanted movie 😉 It was nothing like the book and I’d really like to see what the book would be like! Or Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz. Jocelyn Hook is an awesome character and it would be a really exciting, funny movie.

Rec it! Name 3-5 MG books all readers should read.

Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel by Megan Morrison

Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz

Redwall by Brian Jacques

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

Matilda by Roald Dahl (any Roald Dahl book, really!)

So I don’t read much MG on a normal basis but I ADORE Ella Enchanted and I read that semi-recently (last year) and still loved it so much. I agree with everything Morgan said about it! I also read sooo many of the Redwall books back in the day too and loved them. I’ll have to try some MG again sometime. I know she’s mentioned Grounded to me before so I’m looking forward to trying that soon!
