Don’t love your enemy. Declare war on him.
Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, gotten four streaks of purple in her hair, and moved to Buttcrack-of-Nowhere, Ohio, to help her mom escape a bad relationship.
All the girls in her new school want one thing—Jack Hunter, the Ice Prince of East Summit High. Hot as an Armani ad, smart enough to get into Yale, and colder than the Arctic, Jack Hunter's never gone out with anyone. Sure, people have seen him downtown with beautiful women, but he's never given high school girls the time of day. Until Isis punches him in the face.
Jack’s met his match. Suddenly everything is a game.
The goal: Make the other beg for mercy.
The game board: East Summit High.
The reward: Something neither of them expected.
I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I hear often that there are books readers consider “guilty pleasure” or “book crack.” It’s those books that just pull you in, are addicting and leave you with the epic of book hangovers. If I could label one book in that category, Love Me Never would be one of them.
Not having heard much about before going in, I started the book on a Monday morning on my way to work. Which made my commute the best thing EVER for about a week because this book was freaking hilarious, awesome and chock full of drama. My kind of book crack.
Isis is probably one of my favorite book heroines. She is unlikable, snarky (don’t forget hilarious) yet really below all that is a broken girl just wanted to be loved. Jack, in a similar fashion, is unlikable. And actually, I disliked him for the majority of the book. In that I REALLY LIKE YOU BUT DON’T WANT TO ADMIT IT way. The self-declared “war” between the two made for some entertaining scenes and I admit to spitting out my coffee whilst driving on more than one occasions.
In addition to the drama, Love Me Never handles several difficult topics throughout. Domestic abuse, sexual assault, escorting, to name a few. While the majority of the books I’ve read can’t get away with handling several difficult situations at once, I thought Sara did a great job. Some could say UNREALISTIC but I don’t. I guess my one thing about all that is the age of the characters. I feel like it would BE more believable if they were older.
Speaking of age, I don’t consider this to be strictly YA. I think this a crossover between YA and NA, more towards NA, simply because of the heavy content. But being that this was written before NA was a THING well.
As far as the narration goes, there isn’t anything negative I can say! Amy did a great job narrating the story. I do wish we had a male narrator for Jack’s minimal POV scenes, but that’s a personal preference. I’m hoping Amy narrates the rest of the series!
The ending left me internally screaming, yet speechless. I think the people sitting next to me in traffic thought there was something wrong with me… Full of secrets, drama, and characters you to love to hate, Love Me Never is a great start to a series that I can not WAIT to get my hands on. Seriously. RUN to the nearing bookstore (or use the links above) and snag this one up. You don’t regret it.
