To want what you’re not supposed to have…
She is only nineteen.
She is his new stepfather’s daughter.
She is still naïve and innocent due to spending the last three years taking care of her sick mother.
But for twenty-four year old Rush Finlay, she is the only thing that has ever been off limits. His famous father’s guilt money, his mother’s desperation to win his love, and his charm are the three reasons he has never been told no.
Blaire Wynn left her small farmhouse in Alabama, after her mother passed away, to move in with her father and his new wife in their sprawling beach house along the Florida gulf coast. She isn’t prepared for the lifestyle change and she knows she’ll never fit into this world. Then there is her sexy stepbrother who her father leaves her with for the summer while he runs off to Paris with his wife. Rush is as spoiled as he is gorgeous. He is also getting under her skin. She knows he is anything but good for her and that he’ll never be faithful to anyone. He is jaded and has secrets Blaire knows she may never uncover but even knowing all of that…
Blaire just may have fallen too far.
Fallen Too Far is a very popular NA that has gotten many raving reviews. I own the eBook and even after one of my trusted friends raved about it (and she is just as jaded as I am), I still didn’t start it. But then I saw it for $1.99 on Audible, I thought “why not!?”
First, I will start out by disclosing a few things. 1) I honestly feel that if I read this when it was published OR even months ago when I bought the eBook, I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more than I did. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy it; on the contrary, I REALLY liked it. But it’s NA and NA and I don’t get along as of late. But I digress. 2) Do NOT listen to this book at work. OMG I about died of embarrassment. I am not prudish, but there is a huge difference between reading some hot and steamy sex scenes, to listening to them. O_O
As most know, I have started to fall OUT of love with NA. Maybe I haven’t read the right ones, but I just feel they are all the same. Which isn’t fair, because there are some other amazing NA titles that were written before it was a THING (Perfect Chemistry, being one) That being said; what makes them enjoyable for me in the writing. Abbi’s writing is amazing and really, what made this book a hit for me.
Blaire is such a down to earth girl. She is a bit too goody-goody for my taste buds though, and honestly quite naive. But she had been through so much before arriving on Rush’s doorstep and my heart just went out to her. She is a strong, independent woman who can take care of herself. She’s smart and resourceful too, which is so amazing to see. I am just sick of these helpless protagonist lately.
Rush, on the other hand, is one of the most infuriating love interest I have read in a long time. There is something about a mean ass, bad boy type that gets the ladies going, but until the end, I didn’t see a redeeming quality in him. I was so angry at the way he initially treated Blair — and I couldn’t fathom what she saw so interesting about him, besides his looks. Admittedly, they had some off the charts chemistry and their scenes together were some of the hottest I have read. And that’s saying something because I have read some pretty hot sexy.. things.
There is this huge secret that everyone is keeping and it drove me crazy trying to figure it out. I understood the need to keep other people’s secrets, because it isn’t your business to blab, but I felt Blaire was the epicenter of the whole scandal and someone should have told her. In the same token, I honestly felt like she over reacted. I can see why she would be hurt from being kept in the dark, it did affect her personally and would have turned anyone’s life upside down. I don’t know. I can’t say what someone should/shouldn’t do in that type of situation but it was just a little much for me.
I loved the secondary characters too. Bethy, Woods and Grant. Initially I thought View Spoiler » that Woods, Blair and Rush would have been some weird, awkward love triangle at first « Hide Spoiler. Although Woods does generally care for Blaire and did want something more from her, it seems like a good guy and friend. There is also Nan, Rush’s sister. I’m not gonna lie, she is a bitch. When “the secret” came out in the end, I could see WHY. I blame her and don’t at the same time. She is seriously screwed up emotionally but you can’t that as an excuse to be a bitch. I’ve been told there is more to the story, so I will discuss further when I know what that is.
My Peeve- The narrator. I didn’t mention this until now for a reason. Her voice was really breathy and irritating. I also think her accent is fake, it just sounded like she was trying too hard (I would feel horrible if I am wrong). She is the narrator of another book I have, so I will find out soon enough.
Overall- I really liked Fallen Too Far. I am a little irritated with myself for not reading this sooner. Sexy and emotional, I highly recommend. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
