In Robin York’s provocative new novel, two young ex-lovers find themselves together again in the shadow of tragedy—and an intense, undeniable attraction.

Caroline still dreams about West. His warm skin, his taut muscles, his hand sliding down her stomach. Then she wakes up and she’s back to reality: West is gone. And before he left, he broke her heart.

Then, out of the blue, West calls in crisis. A tragedy has hit his family—a family that’s already a fractured mess. Caroline knows what she has to do. Without discussion, without stopping to think, she’s on a plane, flying to his side to support him in any way he needs.

They’re together again, but things are totally different. West looks edgy, angry at the world. Caroline doesn’t fit in. She should be back in Iowa, finalizing her civil suit against the ex-boyfriend who posted their explicit pictures on a revenge porn website. But here she is. Deeply into West, wrapped up in him, in love with him. Still

They fought the odds once. Losing each other was hard. But finding their way back to each other couldn’t be harder.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Harder was one of my most anticipated novels of 2014. I fell in love with Caroline and West’s story in Deeper, and the ending of that book left me shattered. Their story is heartbreaking, beautiful and one that will stick with me for a long time.

Robin’s writing is one of my favorites to date. Not only has she created such real, honest characters, but the way she tells us their story is pieced together so perfect. Harder is just as slow pacing as Deeper was, but it is necessary to really get an understanding of the situation as a whole. It isn’t just about their relationship, either. Is it large part? Sure. But seeing this two characters grow, come up ahead after everything they have been through and show their strength, was such an amazing thing.

Still told from both Caroline and West’s POV, we see how both are dealing with aftermath of the events in Deeper. We get a lot more of West, which makes me feel like this is more West’s story. Of course, it’s been about them in both, but West took the spotlight. He is dealing with so much more than what he lets on, and how much he really feels he doesn’t deserve things, and why. We got a real good look into his life in Silt in Deeper, but here, it’s like we were zoomed in to get the FULL PICTURE in your face.

It’s not pretty.

My heart just ached for him. He has done some sketchy things, that I wont deny. I guess I feel different about it than i usually would, since he wasn’t doing them selfishly. He tried so hard to give his little sister a better life than what he had, and what she currently had.

Caroline is still dealing with the aftermath of the pictures that went viral and the lawsuit, school and of course, West. She is one of the strongest women written. I love how driven she is, how she fights for everything and everyone, even when they believed they don’t need her help or deserve it. She didn’t hide behind those awful things, but embraced it to show others that what was done to her was not okay. The support she gave West and how she helped out with Franky was admirable, too.

The two together? FEELS. It took some time for a few kinks to get settled, but once they did? Amazing. These two couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Is their relationship perfect? No. Will they have more to sort through? Yes. This type of romance is what gives me the feels. When you fight, hard, for what you want and support one another no matter what. When you accept the good, the bad and the ugly. Not to mention, the flaws.

My Peeve –

The smallest of things temp to stick with us. Well, it does for me. For instance, there was one thing West did in the beginning of the book that really, really pissed me off. It’s probably the single thing he did that wasn’t necessary (obviously) and there was NO excuse for it. But other than that? Nothing.

Overall –

Absolutely LOVED. Caroline and West are one of my favorite couples in New Adult and Robin’s writing is definitely one of my favorites. If you enjoy REAL, RAW and HONEST characters, a romance that has real obstacles, and love so deep it’s worth fighting for, this series is a must read for you.

Recommend –

YES! Must read for all fans of romance, especially in New Adult.
